Poetry Out Loud rubric jigsaw [ Overview ] This assignment will allow you to familiarize yourself with the judging rubric for Poetry Out Loud so that you know what to practice in your own recitation. Each team will develop a presentation on one section of the rubric; we will then come together as a class to hear these presentations and thus gain a full understanding of the judges' expectations.
The sections of the rubric are assigned as follows:
Team 1: Physical presence
Team 2: Voice and articulation
Team 3: Dramatic appropriateness
Team 4: Level of difficulty
Team 5: Evidence of understanding
Team 6: Overall performance
For the purposes of this project, each team will have the following roles:
Administrator: Keeps team on task; makes sure directions are followed and requirements are met.
Facilitator: Guides team discussions in order to include all members equally and collect detailed, complete information.
Recorder: Maintains a Google Document with the results of team discussions and any other decisions or relevant information pertaining to the project.
Advocate: Considers the audience's perspective (i.e. that of the rest of the class) throughout the project and poses questions that the audience may ask so that the group can adequately address any unforseen issues.

Discuss your team members' strengths and come to a consensus on group role assignments. Strive to place each team member in a role where they can be successful.
All team members should read their assigned section of the "Evaluation Criteria and Tips for Contestants." Take notes on what seems important for your section. Discuss your section of the rubric with your team to be sure you all understand it in your own words.

Brainstorm within your team to come up with a way to present your section of the rubric to the class. PowerPoint or a poster are okay, but don't be afraid to get more creative: a Prezi or a skit, for example. (Maybe even a series of poems?) Keep in mind that each person must have an equal role in developing and presenting your section of the rubric. Also keep in mind that your presentation must involve more than simply reading your section of the rubric aloud -- it should demonstrate you have thought carefully about the requirements and understand them.
Be ready to present to the class on Wednesday.
